A glossy white skull with one eye socket flaring in a bright red starburst,
set against a red glow, saved as a transparent cutout. The smooth 3D shading and the lens
flare in the eye are what give this version its menace – it reads as a render rather than
a flat clipart skull.
At 1408 x 1647 pixels it holds up on a full-screen thumbnail. The red glow is part of
the artwork and is semi-transparent at the edges, so it blends into a dark background
instead of stopping at a hard line.

Design tips
This one belongs on a dark background. On black or deep charcoal the red glow does
the work for you and no extra effects are needed; on white the glow turns muddy pink and
the whole image looks washed out.
For a thumbnail, place the skull off-centre and let the glowing eye fall roughly a third
of the way in – the flare pulls the eye to that point, and leaving the other third clear
gives you room for text without covering the face.
